Scorching

«Scorching» (abrasador), the adjective, you may know. Sometimes we have a very hot day (hace un calor tremendo) or scorching day. You might say that the day is a scorcher (día abrasador).

On a scorching day the sand on the beach is scorching (que quema).

There is another use. Here is a recent example. Last weekend Mr. Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister made some scorching remarks (algunas observaciones mordaces) about the EU.

The EU attempted to take some of the Covid vaccines that Britain had ordered and paid for last year. A lot of journalists accused the EU of acting like a despot (déspota). The EU had to back down (…tenía que echarse atrás en…).
