“Last” you may know. It has many uses (ultimo, durar).
If you be a shoemaker or shoe repairer (zapatero) you will know what a “last” (horma) is.

“Stick to your last” = Zapatero a tus zapatos, meaning that a person should concéntrate on what he is trained in or proficient at, and not to interfere with things he has no ability in.
