If something is hackneyed it is repeated so often that mortals are tired of it: that it is no longer interesting and it is boring. Something that is hackneyed is always overused (usado en exceso). Perhaps in Spanish a similar word would be “trillado” or “gastado”.
Contemplate thes examples:
- Mr. Sanchez, the Spanish Prime Minister, always has a hackneyed analysis (…análisis trillado…) of Spain´s problems and this is boring the people.
- Mr. Starmer, the Leader of the Labour Party in England, always tells jokes that are so hackneyed (…bromas que son tan trilladas).
- The plot of Mr. Macron´s new book is just a hackneyed version (una versión trillada) of his previous novel.
The lessons: a new word – perhaps – and avoid using hackneyed phrases.
