With the Covid 19 virus sanitation (la higiene) is important. We use sanitary towels (higiénico de sanidad).
There is also the verb “sanitize” (sanear). We can sanitize our hands or things, and sometimes the verb is used in other contexts. Examine this example:
He tried to sanitize the image of war (intentó dar una imagen aséptica de la guerra).
Sometimes, politicians have sanitized (saneado) the truth, that is, distorting (torciendo) the facts in order to give a better image of the situation.
