To botch something

botch

To botch (chafallar) something is to do a bad job, and a person who does a bad job is a “botcher”, that is, an incompetent person who bungles (hacer chapuceramente) things. The noun is botchery.

Some workers do a botched job, which means that they mend or do something badly.

Here are some examples:

  • Mr. Sanchez botched the negotiations with Mr. Rajoy.
  • The builder did a botched job (chafallo).
  • The builder´s work was a botchery.

So will Mr. Rajoy botch the negotiations with Mr. Rivera leading to another election in November? Or will Mr. Rivera be accused of botchery?
