It rings a bell!

It rings a bell!

It rings a bell! (¿Me suena?)

  • First recorded in the 1900s, the expression ‘rings a bell’ is an expression you might say when you can’t quite remember something, but it sounds familiar. I heard the sound of a bell (…un toque de timbre).

For example:

  • The place David was talking about ‘rang a bell’ but I couldn’t remember where I had read about it.
  • Mr. Sanchez. That name rings a bell (me sunea ese nombre). Was he the loser (perdedor) in the Spanish elections in July?
  • Does that ring any bells with you? (¿Te suena?)
