“Wish” (deseo) you may know. “Wishful” is the adjective.
Mortals often are wishful, that is, they are wishful to do something (están deseoso de hacer algo), or in other words, they have a desire to do something.
However, “wishful thinking” (ilusiones) is different. Mr. Sánchez, the Spanish Prime Minister, thinks he can win a majority at the next election.
Some say: “that is just wishful thinking” (eso es querer hacerse ilusiones).
