“Ape” (simio) you may know. However, the word has other uses.
An ape can be a clumsy (torpe) person, and “ to ape” someone is to imitate the person´s speech or behaviour. Examine these examples:
- Mr. Sanchez took his children to the zoo to see the apes (los simios) and zebras.
- Don´t be an ape (patosa)!
- In the film Mr. Bean aped (imitó) Mr. Zapatero, the Spanish Prime Minister.
- Children often ape (…a menudo remedan a…) their parents.
So you can be an ape, you can visit apes and ape a mortal´s behaviour.
